With successful films like Frozen and Boss baby, it is difficult to imagine a time when animation was not the trend. As cinema started developing among the mass and people were eager to watch content on silver screens it was quite evident for everyone to expect animation.

It all began with people flipping pages of books to create the flapping of books and make the bird fly. It is considered the first example of true character animation. At first, animated cartoons were black-and-white and silent. Felix the Cat and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit are notable examples. Reynaud created the Praxinoscope in 1877 and the Théâtre Optique in December 1888.

But in addition to that Fantasmagorie is a 1908 French animated film by Émile Cohl.
